NetworkNature Science-Policy Dialogue
Looking Forward: Nature Restoration
2 November 2026
Venue: Sorbonne University (tbc)
The Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) seeks to address the interconnected challenges of biodiversity loss, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and food security. The implementation of National Restoration Plans (NRPs) under the NRR represents a unique opportunity to deliver ambitious, wise, forward-looking and large-scale nature restoration. The planning and delivery call for a strong framework for designing and delivering restoration at ambitious scales, ensuring that it is capable of addressing multiple societal challenges and delivering meaningful and lasting outcomes. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) provide a powerful framework to ensure that nature restoration efforts deliver these multiple goals. At the same time, the implementation of NRPs needs the support of collective research and innovation, to provide continuous learning, strong links between science and policy, that supports more adaptive and effective restoration over time.
The NetworkNature Science-Policy Dialogue, Looking Forward: Nature Restoration, will bring together more than 100 policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and financial actors to explore and demonstrate how to deliver wise, ambitious and forward-looking nature restoration through the nature-based solutions framework.
During the event, national restoration planners will present measures from their NRPs that use ambitious, landscape scale nature-based solutions. The dialogue will combine short presentations, panel discussions, and an interactive workshop. Building on inputs from projects collaborating with NetworkNature and the NbS research and innovation community, the discussion will highlight how nature-based solutions can deliver ambitious large-scale nature restoration.During the interactive workshop, participants will reflect on how to better integrate research and innovation into nature restoration planning.
The dialogue will be guided by these key questions:
- What approaches are Member States using to design and implement nature restoration measures that deliver multiple benefits for biodiversity, climate, water and livelihoods?
- How are Member States engaging key sectors and designing incentive structures to ensure the feasibility and uptake of restoration measures?
- What are the most urgent gaps where the NbS research and innovation community can support the effective delivery of national restoration plans
